The Suriname Job A Case Lee Novel Volume 1 Vince Milam 9781546687047 Books

This is not your usual special forces 24/7 shoot 'em up kill the bad guys rinse and repeat novel. The characters are well-defined and interesting. The main character, also the first-person narrator, is a formerly active Delta Force team member who struggles with the morality of the actions of his past - actions that he now has to use again to protect himself, his family, and members of his former team. His introspection is contrasted with the seemingly insensitive attitude of other members of his team.

Some reviewers would have preferred less introspection and more action. This can happen when expectations are based on genre, which can include variations on a theme. I personally would not give a poor rating to a well-written book that wasn't what I expected.

The writing is excellent - it drew me into the story so well that I forgot that I was reading. I can't help noticing writing flaws such as typos, grammatical errors, awkward phrasing, etc., which should be weeded out by the author's self review and good editing. About half way through the book I realized that I had not noticed any such issues, nor did I find any later. I also didn't notice any continuity issues.

Perhaps the content could be tightened up a bit, but I will reserve judgment until I read the next in the series.

I enjoy these types of action military man / spy novels, but the reality is that, in most cases, the writing is just ok. Not the case here. Vince Milan can really write. An excellent novel, not just for action but for sheer high quality writing. As soon as I finished, I went in search of the next Cast Lee novel, and was disappointed that this is a new book and so no #2 yet. I hope Milan makes this a series as I'll buy and read every one.
I love action stories, but sometimes authors get so involved in the action they ignore pretty much everything else - characters, readability, plot, etc. Not so with this writer! The writing style is superb and the characters unforgettable (Jules and Bo are favorites). The action? Exciting, described in excellent detail, and often with a twist. I read the whole series of 3 books all at once and can't wait for the 4th and more. You won't be disappointed with Vince Milam.
Case Lee, former Delta Force operator, with a bounty on his head, can't pass up the opportunity to investigate. Other than his mother, his sister, and her dog, his only family is his former teammates. Has one of them gone over to the other side?

From South America to the Intracoastal Waterway to a ranch out west, the action is fast paced. The characters are interesting and unique, the plot twists and turns.

Can't wait to read more about Case Lee.
This is a good story from an author I had not read prior to this. There is plenty of action, amusing dialogue, a long-running mystery which doesn't get solved by the end of the story, and a surprising reunion between battle-scarred 'brothers' in the final couple of chapters. One thing which I found intriguing, however, is the many detours the author takes from shoot-'em-up action to heavy duty philosophizing. I'm not at all certain such a lot of soul-searching is appropriate for a thriller but maybe that's just me. The ending of the book is sort of a feel good ending and sort of a 'stay tuned because more questions are on the way' ending...definitely a mixed bag. I prefer more definite closings where the good guy wraps it all up or is left to die. Again, maybe that's just me!! All in all, this is a reasonable investment in time and enjoyment for only a buck through Unlimited.
It is so refreshing these days to find an author who actually takes time with his work to assure it is perfect, rather than crank out I book every couple of weeks full of flaws. Having said that, you are going to love this book! This would not be my normal genre to read, but I have read other works created by this author so I thought why not. This is a page turner that will keep you up at night to finish! Excellent storyline, good suspense, and interesting plot turns.
Anyone can write a novel in this genre that emphasizes violence and macho madness. This is not one of those. This is clever, engaging, serious, and absolutely a book that is hard to put down. Vince Milam is an author who has crafted a wonderful story. He paints the picture, uses vocabulary twists, and the only thing I didn't care for was the fact that at some point, the story had to end. Highly recommend this to a serious Military reader.
I really did not enjoy this book at all. I finally decided after reading about 27% on my kindle that I could not go on anymore. This is not like me. I can usually get through a book but not this one. When I first began the book and there were many incomplete sentences, I thought oh well I can get by if the story is good. But no.... I could not. The incomplete sentences were very distracting. I am not an English major by any means but how does this happen that a book can get edited and still be written with so many grammatical mistakes. I did not really like the story either. It moved very slowly. I read the reviews and some said the same...slow at first but picks up. Well I could not wait for it to pick up.
